Tungabhadra Dam was built in 1953 on Tungabhadra river, which is 7 Kms from Hospet in the Bellary District of Karnataka and around 17 Kms from World Haritage Site Hampi. The Dam is 2441 metres long and is 49.38 metres tall. The area of Tungabhadra dam is 387 sqkm. It is used for irrigation and to generate hydel power.
